If you had a toddler that had a cavity - what did they do for it?

I found out my 2 year old has a small cavity. If you went through this how did they treat it? My current dentist wants to do a long drawn out treatment plan. Im thinking I should take him 2 a pediatric dentist? I got him in next week. He has insurance but we have 2 pay out of pocket for the 1st visit - $200.00 . I think its worth it. Any feedback will help. Thanks in advance.
